UNREFINED vs REFINED?

Does it really matter?

When it comes to natural ingredients you'll often see the words Refined or Unrefined pop up a lot, but what does that actually mean?

Often when an organic ingredient is Refined or Ultra refined its been extracted with high heat utilising solvents. This results in a refined product that is usually more white or pale in appearance and has no odour, removing all the "undesirable" elements... however the majority of healing benefits that are found in the unrefined version are lost as a result of this process.

Most of our mainstream products available use refined ingredients which is very practical when it comes to formulating because it provides a longer shelf life as a result of the processing its gone through and is often easier to work with. Unrefined ingredients on the other hand often have a strong smell either being a nutty or earthy aroma that isn't always popular to peoples senses and have a shorter shelf life with a sometimes rich natural colour. Unrefined basically means no impurities have been removed, it's unprocessed and untreated of any kind.

But most importantly the biggest difference is refined ingredients can loose their unique benefits. Organic ingredients are delicate, they are like living sources of Vitamins, Minerals and Omega's. In some cases too much heat while being formulated can damage their unique properties, but treated with care they provide an array of healing, soothing and repairing results.
